Parish Council Elections – Become a Councillor!

District and Parish/Town elections are being held on Thursday 4 May, 2023.  You can find information about these elections on Broadland Council’s website, using the following link: https://www.southnorfolkandbroadland.gov.uk/elections/district-townparish-election-thursday-4-may-2023

Any parishioner who fits certain* criteria can stand to become a parish councillor in Felthorpe.  You can find detailed candidate/agent guidance on the Electoral Commission website at https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/i-am-a/candidate-or-agent/parish-council-elections-england .  You will find a blank and an annotated nomination pack attached to this post which give further guidance on completion.

Completed nominations must be hand delivered (does not need to be the candidate) to the Returning Officer, Broadland District Council / South Norfolk District Council, Horizon Centre (annex), Broadland Business Park, Peachman Way, Norwich, NR7 0WF and can be submitted on any work day from Friday 17 March until 4pm on Tuesday 4 April, 2023 between the hours of 9 am to 4 pm.

*Basic criteria are as follows, but full information is in the attached documents:
•be at least 18 years old
•be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of any member state of the European Union, and
• meet at least one of the following four qualifications:
a. You are, and will continue to be, registered as a local government elector for the parish in which you wish to stand from the day of your nomination onwards. See paragraph 1.11 for further information.
b. You have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the parish area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election. For more details, see paragraph 1.12.
c. Your main or only place of work during the 12 months prior to the day of your nomination and the day of election has been in the parish area. More information is provided in paragraph 1.19.
d. You have lived in the parish area or within three miles of it during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election
