  • 4women Outreach Service

The following correspondence has been received about a new service trying to engage with women in rural areas:

“We are emailing you in regards to a new service which has just been launched, working under the social enterprise of Home Group, the 4women Outreach Service is reaching out to women who live in rural and isolated parts of Norfolk.

We are looking to engage with women on a regular basis and support them into overcoming potential barriers to paid employment.

The Broads and the Wensum & Coastal areas of Norfolk have been proven to be especially isolated for women with intent on returning to employment – this service is determined to overcome barriers for women 18+ who are long-termed unemployed, furthest from the labour market and in rural locations.

We will be providing localised support and activities across the designated areas.  Led by women, for women, we are ambitious in our achievements and for the women accessing new project support.

We have attached our leaflet along with a referral form.”

  • Norwich Western Link Road

In early November, Norfolk County Council published four potential route options for a Norwich Western Link, to connect the western end of Broadland Northway (formerly the Northern Distributor Road) to the A47. The council wants to improve travel between these two major roads and to tackle the transport problems that exist in the area to the west of Norwich, including slow journey times, rat running and roads not being suitable for the volume and type of traffic.

The four routes have been published following months of work to identify which options would be most effective as a Norwich Western Link. The shortlisted options were also informed by the results of an initial Norwich Western Link consultation which was held earlier this year. This consultation had more than 1,700 responses and showed there was very strong support for creating a new link between the A47 and Broadland Northway, with the majority of those responding suggesting a new road as their preferred solution.

The shortlist is made up of three new dual carriageway roads and a single carriageway upgrade to the B1535, and all of the options also include improvements to the A1067 Fakenham Road.

A public consultation on these routes will run between Monday 26 November 2018 and Friday 18 January 2019. During the consultation, people will be asked for their views on the options and these responses will help the council identify a preferred option for a Norwich Western Link in spring 2019. The consultation is also an opportunity to tell the council about any relevant information they should consider before deciding on a preferred route.

People can find out more about the options and respond to the consultation online via www.norfolk.gov.uk/nwl from Monday 26 November. People can also respond in person, and ask any questions they may have, at a series of staffed consultation events taking place throughout the consultation period. Information on these events is below, all the events will run between 2 and 8pm unless otherwise stated and people can drop in at any point between these opening times.

  • Norfolk Remembers

    From Broadland Council:

“I wanted to introduce an event Broadland District Council is hosting in November to commemorate the First World War centenary.

Making this national event specifically relevant to the Broadland community, ‘Broadland Remembers’ will be an exhibition which highlight efforts made by the people of Broadland during the First World War and how the conflict affected local people.

It’ll be running for a week from 9th – 16th November at Whitwell and Reepham Railway.

As part of the activities, we are curating artwork, poetry, letters and artefacts from the District’s Parishes.

If you know of anything relevant from your area or have a person in mind who might be able to help, it would be great if you could get back to me.

  • Road Closure – The Street and Bilney Lane

    NOTICE FROM NORFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL:

Road closure for drainage improvements on Bilney Lane and The Street, Felthorpe

Drainage improvement work will begin on Monday 15 October 2018 on the C245 The Street and U57169 Bilney Lane, Felthorpe. The work will take five weeks to complete subject to suitable weather conditions.

This work is being carried out in response to surface water flooding issues in the area and will see a drainage system installed and connected into the existing ditch on The Street in order to reduce the likelihood of this happening again in the future.

Due to the construction process involved and to maintain a safe working environment and protect the public it will be necessary to have a road closure for both The Street: from a point east of Sawmill Close to the junction with Bilney Lane for 2 weeks from 15 October 2018 to 26 October 2018, and Bilney Lane: from the junction with The Street for a distance of 150m from 15 October 2018 to 16 November 2018

A fully signed diversion will be in place for the duration of the road closures. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.

During all works every effort will be made to maintain access to properties and businesses but there may be certain times when works have an impact upon access. Emergency services and bus companies will also be made aware of the closure so that alternative arrangements can be made for emergency vehicles and bus services.

The County Council thanks people for their patience while this drainage improvement work is carried out.

The works which will cost £35,000 will be carried out by Norfolk County Council’s Community and Environmental Services Department and their contractors.
